ANNUAL STORYTELLING FESTIVAL “ATHENS…A CITY OF TALES”
19-26 of March 2017
The annual Storytelling Festival “Athens… a city of tales” is organized since 2014. It is an
eight days festival which is inspired by and dedicated to the World Storytelling Day (20 th of
March) The activities are hosted at specific chosen locations of the Municipality of Athens
City (Museums , cultural centers and institutes, libraries, churches, auditoriums, schools).
The festival’s program includes storytelling performances of folktales and a storytelling
Marathon told by greek and international storytellers, tourist guides and priests. The 2017
organization is kindly supported by the Eunic Greece members and is under the patronage of
the Embassy of Belgium in Greece-Cyprus and the National Tourist Organization of Greece.
Epics, Myths, folktales and saint stories are told, parallel artistic exhibitions, scientific
conference, film screening and special tributes are made. It is co-organized by the Cultural,
Athletic and Youth Organization of the Municipality of Athens, the Non profit Organization
“Folktales & Myths on the back of the Centaur”, the Cultural Club of Agios Georgios Nilias
“The Centaur” and Pelion Oros. It is the first time globally that a storytelling festival about
the WSD is organized by a Municipality of the historical and cultural importance and
significance such as the Municipality of Athens City. The entrance is free for all the activities
